DMTC Director to head new Enterprise Connect Defence Centre

The Defence Materials Technology Centre (DMTC) congratulates one of its Directors, Mr Tony Quick, on his appointment as Director of the new SME-focused Enterprise Connect Defence Industry Innovation Centre.

The Defence Industry Innovation Centre will offer a range of hands-on services to small to medium enterprises in the Defence industry sector. Services will include free business reviews and supporting grants to help boost productivity and increase SMEs’ ability to compete in international markets.

“DMTC enthusiastically supports Tony’s appointment to the Defence Industry Innovation Centre, and we see a great deal of complementary between the two organisations,” DMTC CEO Dr Mark Hodge said.  “Having Tony involved in both organisations is a huge positive for the defence industry in Australia.”

Mr Quick has extensive experience in the defence industry. In addition to his involvement with DMTC, he was recently a Director and General Manager of GKN Aerospace Engineering Services, an Australian company heavily involved the Joint Strike Fighter project.

The new Centre is part of the Australian Government’s Enterprise Connect program and a key element of the Rudd Government’s $61 million defence industry skilling package.

Mr Quick said he was pleased to be participating in the Enterprise Connect program.

“Through this Centre, businesses operating in a wide range of defence industries will be able to access the support and assistance they require to compete on an international level,” he said.

Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr and Minister for Defence Materiel Greg Combet announced the appointment today, highlighting the government’s focus on the defence sector.

“Defence industries are an important part of Australia’s manufacturing sector and through this Centre, the Australian Government is ensuring businesses have the best chance to succeed and compete at a global level,” Senator Carr said. “Mr Quick has the expertise and enthusiasm to make this Centre a success.”
